In my job as a longarm quilter I get to see such an array of quilts. What I love to see are those quilts I love but know that I will probably never make. Top of the list is needle turn applique. I love the look it gives but I know that I will never have the patience to make one.
So it was my delight to receive a Growing Wild BOM quilt through the post. This pattern is by Sarah Fielke and my customer made it during 2020 - the timing couldn't have been better in retrospect!
The piecing is the star of the show in this quilt and so the quilting is a supporting act - something to stabilise the top and give great texture. My customer chose Raindrops on Water and I think it fits the bill wonderfully.
I quilted it using Glide 40wt in Bone - this is a neutral colour which blends across a multi-coloured quilt and sometimes takes the colour of the fabric it is stitching over. The colours in this quilt were gorgeous and still shine through the quilting.
This is the second Sarah Fielke quilt pattern I have quilted for this customer and it was such a pleasure to quilt. This is a big quilt at 92" square so there was nowhere to get a full shot of it but hopefully I will get to see it finished once my customer has put the binding on.
